Set at the top of 20 Fenchurch Street (otherwise known as the Walkie-Talkie building), the Sky Garden is a free public space set over the top three floors of the building. Now you’d think free public space would mean you wander up and just hang around for a bit, see a lovely garden, maybe have an overpriced drink and cake, then wander away again… and you would, unfortunately, be wrong. After a brief break over summer to focus on professional development (blergh) I have kick started my ‘see-one-cool-thing-in-London-a-month’ funtimes again. My first trip out has been one that has been on the radar since I moved down- Highgate Cemetery. Creepy Victoriana – check. Famous Tombs – checks. Friend with a similarly macabre sense of adventure – check. And away!
So I’ve been back in Manchester properly for the first time since I went to London. 8 months is a long time in this ever changing city, and it has gone crazy.
Epic bike ride time! Another part of the ‘see London’ mission this month was to explore the Thames Path, which runs along the river for 184 miles! I only did about 5 miles, from Kew Bridge to Hammersmith Bridge, but that was still pretty awesome, and another 5 miles getting to and from the river.

Since I am spending so much money on living in London, I am going to try really hard to get around and see as much as the city has to offer me. At the same time, I a ruthlessly exploiting all the “Top 10 Things To Do in London for Under a £10/£5/Free” type articles I can find on Buzzfeed and Pinterest. I could say it was because of the money situation, but actually I really believe that you can either spend a lot of money on experience (let’s hit the Savoy, woho) or very little. The mid-ground is kind of a nothing; the extra money spent doesn’t necessarily equate to any more enjoyable a time, and can keep you stuck in easy, but bland mediocracy.
So to kick this whole thing off, this weekend I managed to squeeze in 3 super fun things, and spent £14 (excluding travel into the city centre) on a Big Day Out. Continue reading
A hideous 4 months have gone by without me posting; basically everything got very manic for a period of time… but as I write this now I am looking back with a smile, because I believe that it is all leading to a good place.
So what has changed? Well…
